Marriott Fairfield Inns & Suites in Sudbury

I recently had a two-night stay at Marriott’s Fairfield Inn & Suites hotel in Sudbury, Ontario.

This was my first hotel stay since the pandemic and so I was excited and a teeny bit nervous about it. Nervous because this will be the first time I will encounter Covid-related measures in a hotel setup.

I am a Marriott Bonvoy member so booked the rooms through my points.

The hotel is conveniently located near restaurants and shopping facilities and check-in was a breeze.

Vaccination Passport

I had to show my vaccination document along with an ID and was given a so-called Facilities Pass which I had to carry all the time. Showing the document inside the hotel premises meant I did not have to carry my vaccination document and an ID at all times.

The Room

It was a King-sized room with all the amenities – bedside phone, television, mini refrigerator, a small desk to work etc.,

The bathroom had the usual toiletries but I also saw anti-bacterial wipes.

The Front Desk had informed me that, due to the pandemic, they will clean the room only when we ask for it. It depended a lot on our comfort level. I was there for just two nights and was scheduled to spend most of the daytime out of the hotel so I told them I don’t need any cleaning the following day.

But they said I could ask for toiletries anytime I want.

Breakfast Buffet

A complimentary, buffet style breakfast came with our package.

There were fresh fruits, waffle maker as well as the usual breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausages and potatoes. Of course, there was different types of bread, cereal, milk, juice, coffee etc.,

What has changed is that there was single-use plates and cutlery.

The staff was very friendly and professional and were doing their best to give us as much comfort and normalcy as possible. The guests, in the meantime, ensured they kept the social distancing.

The front desk staff was very helpful. I sought their help in figuring out my dinner options and they gave me all the guidance.

Besides doing some local trips, including one to the science centre, I enjoyed my diner at the Made in Canada (MIC) restaurant (see my review here), which sources almost all, if not all, its ingredients including the beer from within Canada.

I usually don’t use the hotel pool or the whirlpool but since this was the first time I have been in a hotel since the pandemic, I decided to enjoy both.

The internet connection was established without any hitches, and it was fast.
